🔋 iAtlas Battery #32 | 🏢 Companies → LG Energy Solution LG Energy Solution is one of the major companies shaping the global lithium-ion battery industry. Its battery business extends across electric vehicles, energy storage systems, IT devices, light electric vehicles, and emerging applications such as robotics and future mobility. The company also operates across…
🔋 iAtlas Battery #31 | 🏢 Companies → CATL When discussing the global lithium-ion battery industry, one company is impossible to ignore: CATL. Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited—better known as CATL—has grown from a Chinese battery manufacturer into one of the most influential companies in the global electric-vehicle and energy-storage industries. Its importance goes beyond…
🔋 iAtlas Battery #30 | 🏭 Manufacturing → 📊 Battery Cell Grading Not every lithium-ion battery cell leaving a production line performs exactly the same. Even when cells use the same materials, design, and manufacturing process, small variations can appear in capacity, open circuit voltage, internal resistance, self-discharge, and other characteristics. These differences matter when…
🔋 iAtlas Battery #29 | 🏭 Manufacturing → ⏳ Battery Aging Process A lithium-ion battery does not move directly from formation to final shipment. After the first controlled charge and discharge cycles, newly formed cells typically enter another important manufacturing stage known as battery aging. During aging, battery cells are stored under controlled conditions while…
🔋 iAtlas Battery #28 | 🏭 Manufacturing → 🔋 Battery Manufacturing Process A lithium-ion battery may look like a simple energy-storage device, but producing one requires a long sequence of tightly controlled manufacturing processes. Active materials must first be mixed into a uniform slurry. That slurry is coated onto metal current collectors, dried, compressed, and…
🔋 iAtlas Battery #27 | ⚙️ Equipment → 🔍 Inspection Equipment By the time a lithium-ion battery reaches the final stage of manufacturing, it has already passed through material preparation, electrode production, cell assembly, electrolyte filling, and formation. However, even after these carefully controlled processes, manufacturers cannot assume that every battery cell meets quality standards….
🔋 iAtlas Battery #26 | ⚙️ Equipment → ⚡ Formation Equipment After electrolyte filling and wetting, a lithium-ion battery is still unable to deliver its full performance. The battery must first undergo a carefully controlled process called formation. During formation, the battery experiences its first charge and discharge cycles under precisely controlled conditions. These initial…
🔋 iAtlas Battery #25 | ⚙️ Equipment → 💧 Electrolyte Filling Equipment After battery electrodes have been assembled into a complete cell structure through stacking or winding, one critical process remains before the battery can become electrochemically active: electrolyte filling. The electrolyte serves as the medium that transports lithium ions between the cathode and anode…
🔋 iAtlas Battery #24 | ⚙️ Equipment → 🌀 Winding Equipment While pouch cells are commonly assembled using stacking technology, cylindrical cells—and many prismatic batteries—rely on a different method called winding. In this process, the cathode, separator, and anode are continuously rolled together to form a compact spiral structure known as the jelly roll. Although…
🔋 iAtlas Battery #23 | ⚙️ Equipment → 📑 Stacking Equipment After electrodes have been coated, dried, calendared, and slit into precise dimensions, they are ready to be assembled into battery cells. For pouch cells and many next-generation prismatic batteries, this assembly process is performed using battery stacking equipment. Instead of winding electrodes into a…
